Congressional Testimony Cites Half in Ten’s Commitment to Cutting Poverty

On Wednesday, October 29, the House Committee on Ways and Means held a hearing on Economic Recovery, Job Creation and Investment In America. Robert Greenstein, Executive Director of the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, was among the distinguished witnesses who testified at the hearing. Greenstein discussed new data on wealth and income inequality, the role of public policy solutions, and the implications of these solutions.

Greenstein also spoke of the rising poverty rate, and noted the work of Half in Ten, saying:

“Poverty is higher in the United States that in many other developed countries, and it is costly to the economy to have so many adults with limited skills and earnings and to perpetuate that situation through the damaging effects of persistent child poverty. We can do better. An effort that deserves attention here is the Half in Ten Campaign, which is calling on policymakers to adopt the goal of cutting poverty in half over the next ten years.”
